Documents and Important Papers
Passport is essential with at least 6 months validity. China tourist visa must be valid for your travel dates. Tibet Travel Permit original is mandatory for flights and trains. Foreign Travel Permit (ATP) is needed for areas outside Lhasa. Military Zone Pass is required for border regions. Keep digital copies in email and cloud storage.
Money and Payment Methods
Chinese Yuan cash is most reliable, especially in remote areas. Exchange currency before entering Tibet. Alipay and WeChat Pay are widely accepted in Lhasa. International credit cards work at some ATMs in Lhasa. Carry backup payment methods.
Internet and VPN
Google, Gmail, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and LINE are blocked in China. Download and test VPN before departure. Prepare 2-3 backup VPN options. Buy a local SIM card upon arrival. Download offline maps like Maps.me.
Electronics and Power Adapters
China uses 220V / 50Hz. Bring a universal power adapter with USB ports. Carry extra camera batteries as cold reduces battery life. Portable charger (10000mAh+) is essential. Bring extra memory cards.
